The following dialogue is colour-coded according to evaluative categories. In class I will do a level 1 evaluation — that is, an analysis that stays within the dramatic context. For instance, it doesn’t bring in research on the validity of the statistical, medical, or legal assertions of the lawyers.
For practice, construct an evaluative argument based on the structure of the dialogue — readily seen in the colouring of the different categories. Doing this should help you see the relationship of categories, and go beyond merely listing the strategies. When you’ve finished, compare your argument to the sample skeletal outline at the bottom of the page.
